About Mr Yassir Iqbal
Biography
Mr Yassir Iqbal is a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon based in London and a substantive Consultant at St Thomas’ Hospital & Royal Brompton Hospital, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.
He specialises in adult cardiac surgery, with expertise in coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG), aortic valve surgery, surgery of the aortic root and ascending aorta, and the surgical treatment of arrhythmias. His practice also includes complex and emergency cardiac and aortic surgery.
Mr Iqbal places particular emphasis on providing safe, evidence-based and personalised care. He believes that patients should understand not only what operation is being recommended, but why it is being recommended and what the alternatives are. He works closely with cardiologists, imaging specialists and other cardiac surgeons to ensure that each patient receives the treatment most appropriate to their individual condition.
Where a patient would benefit from highly specialised expertise, Mr Iqbal works within an established network of experienced cardiac specialists and can facilitate referral or collaborative care. His approach is centred on accessibility, clear communication and continuity of care from the initial consultation through surgery and recovery.
Mr Iqbal completed his specialist cardiothoracic surgical training in London and Birmingham, working across several major UK cardiac centres and gaining extensive experience in adult cardiac and aortic surgery. He subsequently undertook an advanced cardiac surgical fellowship at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, where he developed further expertise in off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery and total arterial revascularisation.
Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Iqbal has a strong interest in improving patient pathways, enhanced recovery after cardiac surgery, digital health and the use of technology to improve the quality and delivery of cardiac surgical care.
